Shaping Your Legacy: Reflections from the Legacy Planning Expo in Whangārei
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Shaping Your Legacy, the Legacy Planning Expo held at McKay Stadium in Whangārei. It was my first expo, so I arrived with plenty of curiosity and no real expectations. I was looking forward to discovering what the general public thought of the products I would be showcasing: the Peace of Mind Planners and my new product, The Executor’s Companion.
I arrived on Thursday morning and set up my stall amidst a real buzz of excitement. As people began coming through the doors, I soon welcomed my first visitors. They were curious, engaged and generous with their feedback. Many took delight in leafing through the planners, discovering what was inside and considering how the resources could help them and their families.
Within five minutes, I had my first sale of The Executor’s Companion, which was a wonderful start to the event and made me feel validated that I was on the right track.
Meaningful connections and important conversations
Over the two days, I had the opportunity to mix and mingle with many of the other stallholders. The event brought together a fascinating range of organisations and professionals, including lawyers, funeral directors, Hospice, the Cancer Society and many more.
I also attended talks on Advance Care Planning and investment opportunities. These sessions added even more depth to an event that was already centred on thoughtful preparation, informed choices and caring for the future.
My favourite part of the expo was the opportunity to have in-depth, genuine conversations with people about end-of-life planning. These are important conversations, and they are not always easy to begin. Yet when people have the right support and resources, planning can become a meaningful act of care for themselves and the people they love.
A memorable highlight
Another highlight was seeing the delighted response from the winner of the Peace of Mind Planner prize draw. It was lovely to see how much the prize meant to them, and it was a reminder of why these resources matter.
Overall, attending Shaping Your Legacy was an incredibly positive experience. I am grateful to everyone who stopped at my stall, shared their thoughts, asked questions or simply took the time to explore the planners. As my first expo, it gave me valuable insight, wonderful encouragement and an even stronger appreciation for the importance of making space for these conversations.
I came away feeling inspired by the people I met and excited to continue helping individuals and families prepare for the future with greater clarity, confidence and peace of mind.
